You really weren't sure what to think. First of all, you still kinda slump over when you're sitting in your Bumbo seat. Those back and stomach muscles aren't quite strong enough yet to hold you up. Then when I started putting the spoon in your mouth you had an expression on your face like "What is this?!!" And THEN when I was able to get some rice in your mouth it just came right back out again. You just kinda looked at me kinda confused about the whole thing, and boy were you MESSY!! I believe the first night you swallowed maybe one spoonful. The second night (with the white bib) you maybe got two or three spoonfuls down. Tonight (no pics) you got maybe five or six spoonfuls down before you got tired of me sticking the spoon in your mouth. I love it when you decide to blow rasberries when you have rice in your mouth...haha. It's been quite an adventure so far. I'm sure there's lots more fun to come.

RICE
Well the time has come to start you on rice, Ryan. You're 4 1/2 months old and still not sleeping through the night. In fact you're waking up two, sometimes three, times a night to eat. So, Daddy and I are trying to fill your belly in hopes to get you sleeping longer. Also, you need to get used to eating with a spoon before the real stuff comes along.

Your Second First Tooth
It's a tooth!!! Ryan you have your second first tooth. Remember your first one you were born with but we had to pull it so it wouldn't come out and you swallow it? It's already broken through your gums and everything. Oh, you're growing so fast! Slow down!!!
Click on the pic and you can see the tooth better. Don't forget to look at those beautiful blue eyes.

Four Month Check-Up
Ryan today you had your four month check-up. We had to wait an extra week until you got over your Hand Foot Mouth virus. You weigh 15 pounds 5 ounces (50th percentile). You are 25 1/2 inches long (75th percentile). And your head is 43 1/2 cm (80th percentile). You're getting so big. I knew you were long, and you have to have a big head to hold that smart brain of yours!
You got two shots. The first one you didn't even flinch!! The second one got ya, and you cried a lot until Daddy picked you up and then you were fine. You are such a brave boy!!! You weren't even fussy afterwards. I'm so proud of you.
Dr. Harmon said it would probably be okay to start you on rice cereal if we wanted to, but I think Daddy and I have to think about it a little more.
We finally got a video of you rolling over. It's a little dark, but you can still see.

Are we Teething?
Boy have you been cranky today!! I do believe you are getting a tooth. Not only because you've been cranky and won't let me put you down, but I think I see a bump! You have a bump from the tooth that was pulled right after you were born and now there is another bump right beside it. Could it be????
YOU HAVE FEET!

All Better
You're all better now Ryan. Now Mommy is sick!!! The doctor said we probably couldn't get hand/foot/mouth, but I've got it! Now I can see why you were so unhappy those few days. I just hope we don't pass this back and forth to each other.
You've had such a great day today, though. I'm so proud of you. When I came into your room to wake you up this morning you were just looking around and when you saw me a big smile came on your face. It was such a joy to see that first thing in the morning. You're back to your regular eating schedule. You're taking semi-regular naps again (we're still working on that). I just layed you down for the night and you were laying there happy for about twenty minutes and just now figured out that "Oh yeah, this is when they want me to sleep for a while." Now you're crying, but I'm sure you'll fall asleep in a few minutes. You usually do.
I love you Ryan, and daddy does too!!

Hand Foot Mouth
Well, Ryan, you're sick. Unfortunately you love putting your hands in your mouth and you picked up Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease from somewhere. We thought it was just a simple cold at first because you didn't have a fever in the beginning and just had congestion. As the week went on you became crankier and crankier. Then yesterday morning when I got you out of your crib you felt a little warm and sure enough your temperature was 100.6. I called the doctor right away and she said to come in. Daddy and I took you to the doctor and she looked you over. When she looked in your throat she saw lots of little red bumps (blisters). Dr. Harmon told us it was highly contagious and you could have gotten it from anywhere. She told us that you would likely get little tiny blisters all over your body and by the afternoon you were covered. We couldn't swaddle you last night because of your fever. You woke up at least five times. That's how many times I went to get you back to sleep or feed you. Your throat is hurting you because of the blisters and you're not wanting to eat very much. Daddy and I just try every so often to get you to eat at least a little bit. The only thing we can do for you is give you tylenol for the fever. It does help with the fever, but you just don't feel good. Poor guy. So, Daddy and I are giving you all of our attention today. It's your day. We're going to get you better....God's going to get you better. We love you!
Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'
RYAN YOU ROLLED OVER FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT!!!!
Daddy and I have been waiting for a long time for you to do it and you did it! Way to go big man!! We were all on the floor in the living room and you were playing on your tummy. I layed down in front of you so you could lift your head and see me. All of the sudden PLOP there you were on your back! Daddy and I yelled in excitement...and you cried. It could have been because you rolled from the carpet onto the hard floor, but it was most likely that we scared you with our loud hoorays. You did all this and you were sick. It just shows us that you're a strong boy. You're not going to let anything stand in your way.

What a Big Boy You Are!
Ryan you are amazing your mommy and daddy every day!!! You are getting so big so fast! We're excited and sad at the same time.
Look how high you can hold your head up now. It seems like just yesterday you couldn't lift your head at all and now you lift it up and look all around. You can see from the expression on your face that you're not a big fan of laying on your tummy to play, but you do it...with a little complaining.

We are so thankful that God is helping you grow into a wonderful little boy!

Colorado with Grandma and Pops
Ryan we went to Colorado with Grandma and Pops, Uncle Philip and Aunt Mary, and Uncle Rory and Aunt MaryAnn and Cousin Logan. We went to the Memorial Road Church of Christ Encampment. You were such a good boy there. Everyone loved seeing you and passing you around.
Aunt Mary liked cuddling with you.
Grandma said the two things she wanted to do there was hike and babysit you! She read you books and sang songs with you. You smiled and laughed with here a lot.
You decided that you did not like to be carried like this. Maybe when you're a little older we can turn you around so you can see everything.
You rode in a wagon pulled by horses and learned about the town we were staying in. It was a little cold so we wrapped you in a towel.

She would watch you while daddy and I went on dates...We rode the chairlift, went on hikes, and had breakfast together.
We took you with us on hikes too! I think you really like being out in God's world.

P.S. You learned how to blow rasberries with your tongue this week. It's so cute and so slobbery!!
Your First Plane Ride
Ryan you took your first plane ride last week!! Mommy didn't fly in a plane until she was 22 years old!! You're a lucky boy! You did so good. I had a bottle ready for you to have in case your ears started to pop, but on the way to Colorado you just slept most of the way. You didn't have a care in the world.
Here you are ready for your first flight!
On the way home you were such a good boy too! You were awake the whole time, but as happy as can be. You played a laughed with mommy and daddy. The lady sitting next to daddy said you were the best baby she had ever seen on a plane! We're so proud of you!
